Maximizing Long-Term Value: Fanchi-tech Modular Metal Detectors Sustain North American Rice Cooperative’s 15-Year Partnership

The ultimate goal of any food processing machinery investment is to achieve sustainable total cost of ownership without compromising inspection performance and food safety. For one of North America’s largest rice farmer cooperatives, continuous access to upgradable inspection technology is the key reason behind its long-term loyalty to Fanchi-tech for over 15 years.
Benefiting consistently from Fanchi-tech’s Never Obsolete equipment philosophy, the prominent rice processor currently operates more than 50 Fanchi-tech inspection units across its southern U.S. dry-rice manufacturing facilities. The diversified machine fleet includes gravity fall detectors, bulk bag inspection systems, offline laboratory detectors, and incline conveyor metal detectors. From a sustainability standpoint, Fanchi-tech’s flexible engineering concept — including hardware reuse, software iteration, and legacy equipment renovation — remains the core reason why the rice cooperative keeps expanding cooperation year after year.
Like most agricultural food sectors, the global rice industry has faced severe challenges in recent years, including production waste, unstable harvest yields, rising energy consumption, and fluctuating raw grain prices. With global rice shortages hitting a 20-year peak and market prices remaining volatile, grain utilization and cost control have become critical priorities for large-scale rice manufacturers. For enterprises of this magnitude, investing in durable, upgradable, low-waste inspection equipment effectively offsets operational risks and brings long-term cost stability.
The cooperative processes and packages over 100 varieties of long-grain and medium-grain rice, supplying supermarkets, chain restaurants, catering distributors, and global export markets. To support its expanding production capacity, Fanchi-tech has delivered continuous technological renovations and equipment upgrades. Outdated analog metal detectors aged over ten years have been digitally reconstructed to enhance contaminant sensitivity, enabling automatic data logging, intelligent reporting, and audit traceability — matching the performance standards of brand-new Fanchi-tech detectors. In its largest modernization project to date, the customer refurbished 13 existing detector heads and reinstalled them on customized heavy-duty incline conveyor frames, equipped with an innovative bi-directional sweep reject system optimized for heavy rice bags.

Reliable Inspection Solutions for Dry Grain Production

Annually harvesting, milling, grading, and packaging over 60 million bushels of rice, the U.S.-based cooperative relies heavily on stable and low-maintenance metal detection equipment. In the upstream production stage, Fanchi-tech gravity metal detectors are installed between product chutes and storage hoppers. Each unit efficiently inspects free-falling dry rice at a capacity ranging from 40,000 to 75,000 cubic feet per hour, precisely isolating metal contaminants while minimizing the discharge of qualified grain to reduce raw material waste.
Compact offline laboratory detectors are deployed for secondary analysis of rejected materials. Quality inspection teams can quickly separate metal foreign bodies from rice grains, rework eligible products, and trace contamination sources for production optimization.
For heavy bulk packages up to 110 lbs, Fanchi-tech customized large-bag metal detectors with oversized apertures and reinforced coil structures. Equipped with heavy-load conveyor systems, these bulk inspection machines guarantee accurate central detection, identifying ferrous and non-ferrous metals as small as 1.5 mm, alongside 2.0 mm non-magnetic 316 stainless steel fragments.
To handle small rice packs below 20 lbs, Fanchi-tech designed a 14-foot inclined conveyor system. Packaged rice moves steadily along a 45° flighted belt, while a customized Stealth-series detector head maintains consistent sensitivity throughout high-speed operation. Ground-level remote access allows operators to adjust inspection parameters and export data conveniently, even when the main HMI panel is out of reach.

Sustainable Engineering Reduces Production Waste

To solve the rejection difficulty on inclined conveyor lines, Fanchi-tech adopted specially structured flighted belts instead of traditional rubber friction strips, effectively preventing package damage and unnecessary product loss.
Facing an average line speed of 150 packs per minute, Fanchi-tech developed a unique bi-directional paddle sweep reject mechanism. Contaminated packages can be eliminated from either side of the conveyor, with sealed chutes safely transporting rejected goods to the ground for centralized QA inspection.
Thanks to Fanchi-tech’s universal modular design, all detectors support phased upgrades and flexible budget allocation. The rice cooperative is currently upgrading more than ten conventional Phantom detectors to advanced Stealth versions using original mechanical structures. This upgrade mainly enhances digital data tracking and intelligent recording functions to meet increasingly stringent global food audit standards.
“These original mechanical frames remain fully functional, yet modern food safety audits require complete digital traceability. Our universal modular architecture makes upgrades simple and cost-effective,” commented Jake Murray, Regional Sales Manager at Fanchi-tech. “Reusing qualified industrial assets avoids unnecessary equipment scrappage, lowers manufacturing carbon emissions, and helps food factories achieve sustainable development reporting targets.”
Asset renovation and equipment upgrading have become Fanchi-tech’s distinctive advantages for long-term industrial clients, helping agricultural and grain manufacturers minimize waste, extend machine service life, and maximize return on investment.
